Installing SQL Express 2008 R2 for RedBeam

Issue: Installing SQL Express 2008 R2 for RedBeam Use.
Generally Caused By: Customer needing a 64 bit SQL install.

Step 1

This will take you through a manual install of SQL Server Express 2008 R2 for 32 or 64 bit machines: Click Here to download the SQL Server installation file. You will need to select SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe (for 32 bit machines) or SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe (for 64 bit machines).


Step 2

Click Run.


Step 3

Once the SQL Server Installation Centers opens, click Installation and New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.


Step 4

Click OK once Setup Support Rules have completed.


Step 5

Click Next.


Step 6

Read and accept the licensing terms of Microsoft and click Next.


Step 7

Once Setup Support Files is displayed, click Next.


Step 8

Click Next.


Step 9

Select Database Engine Services under Instance Features and click Next.


Step 10

The named instance depends on the following: If you have RedBeam Asset Tracking your instance=RBAT. If you have RedBeam Inventory Tracking your instance=RIT. If you have RedBeam Check in/Check out your named instance will be RCO.

Click Next.

Step 12

Click Next.


Step 13

Under Account Name, select NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE and click Next.


Step 14

Choose Mixed Mode and enter the password 34TJ4@#$ (this is the default password for RedBeam). Click Add Current User and then click Next.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Install.


Step 18

Click Next.

Click Close.

Select Start >> All Programs >> Microsoft SQL Server 2008 >> Configuration Tools and select SQL Server Configuration Manager.


Step 21

On the left window pane, select SQL Server 2008 Network Configuration. Then on the right window pane, select the SQL Server Instance you installed. (RBAT, RIT, or RCO).

On the right window pane, right click on Named Pipes and select enable. Then right click on TCP/IP and select enable.

On the left window pane, select SQL Server 2008 Services. Then right click on the correct SQL Server Instance on the right window pane and select Restart.


Step 24

Begin the install of the application of RedBeam if it has not been installed as of yet.
Note: if the SQL portion of the install fails you can continue with the install of the application since you already installed SQL. If the application gives you errors, please proceed to the following page to view directions for creating the seed.
