Runtime Error 70: Permission Denied

Application: Asset Tracking, Inventory Tracking, Check In Check Out
Area: Runtime Error
Issue: 70 Permission denied
Generally Caused By: Limited access windows logins
Level of Complexity: Low

Step 1

If users with limited security rights will be using the application, a user with administrative rights on the network must give “full control” access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ (RBAT, RCO, or RIT) registry node for the “users” group just after installation occurs on the workstation.

Step 2

Locate an IT person or obtain administrative user account. If not, see Step 7.

Step 3

Navigate to Start > Run and in the Open box, type regedit (Windows XP, 2003 users) or regedt32 (Windows NT, 2000 users), and then click “OK”.

Step 4

Locate the appropriate node and right click “Permissions” select the security tab > permissions menu in regedt32.

For Asset Tracking:

For Inventory Tracking and Check In Check Out:
HKEY_Current_User\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings (RIT, RCO) or HKEY_Current_User\Software\Wow6432Node\VB and VBA Program Settings (RIT, RCO) for 64 bit systems

Step 5

Select the “Users” group and check the “Allow” box for “Full Control” and click “OK”.

Step 6

Restart the application. If you receive the same message 70: Permission Denied see Step 7.

Step 7

Please contact RedBeam Technical Support by dialing 1-877-373-0390 and selecting option 2.

Notes: The admin user that installs the application on the workstations will also need to register the application on the workstations before logging off. This must be done before limited access users attempt to use the workstation because they will not be able to update the registry with the activation key. The activation key resides in a different location then the regular registry information.
