The Setup area allows administrators to configure dropdown options and supporting data throughout RedBeam RFID. These settings streamline item management, enforce consistency, and support automation features like Workflows and Fixed Reader assignments.
Metadata Dropdowns
Users can create and manage dropdown options for item metadata fields in the Setup Locations and Setup Item Data tabs.
- Add options manually with the Add button
. - Batch import options from a spreadsheet or CSV using the Import icon
. - Integrate via API for advanced or automated updates (see the API section for details)
- Export options at any time with the Export icon
. - Delete one or multiple options with the Delete icon
. - Edit by selecting an option in the grid and updating its details.
Locations
Locations represent the physical or virtual places where items can be assigned.
- In RedBeam RFID Mobile, locations can be selected when moving or assigning items (see the Mobile section).
- In Fixed Reader configurations, locations are assigned to antennas to automatically capture item movements (see the RFID section).
Hierarchy
- RedBeam uses a three-tier nested hierarchy:
- Company → Building → Location
- Each Location belongs to a Building, and each Building belongs to a Company.
Note: The hierarchy labels (Company, Building, Location) can be renamed to match your business model (Warehouse, Area, Zone). See the Customization section for more details.
Location Types
You can create Location Types to group locations under a shared category.
- Example: “Storage,” “Production,” or “Shipping.”
- Location types are especially helpful for Workflows, where actions may depend on the type of location involved.
Item Data
The Setup Item Data Tab allows you to manage dropdown for:
- Item Types (Laptop,” “Pallet,” “Forklift”)
- Item Statuses (“In Use,” “Available,” “Under Repair)
- Custom fields configured for your organization.
